Elon Musk said during SpaceX’s earnings call that merging SpaceX with Tesla would be a “good idea,” and the boards of both companies have formed special committees to discuss the possibility. Analysts polled by LSEG expect Tesla to report earnings of 43 cents per share and revenue of $27.9 billion, compared with $28.1 billion a year earlier. Third-quarter deliveries amounted to 486,532 vehicles, about 2% fewer than a year earlier, while competition from BYD and Xiaomi and the end of the U.S. EV tax credit weighed on the business. Tesla expects capital expenditures to exceed $25 billion this year, including spending on a semiconductor factory being built with SpaceX and Intel in Texas. The merger would require approval from 50% of Tesla’s shareholders, while the Cybercab robotaxi and supervised autonomous driving, already offered to nearly 1.5 million paying customers, are central to investor concerns.
