Stand With Crypto UK received 10,092 complaints from 9,803 people between May and August 2026 about blocked or restricted transfers to crypto platforms registered with the UK Financial Conduct Authority. Lloyds Banking Group attracted the most complaints, with 2,297, followed by Barclays with 1,569 and NatWest with 1,278, accounting for about 51% of the total. The report says six banks, including Starling Bank, TSB and Chase UK, ban crypto-related transfers, while Barclays and HSBC UK impose limits of £2,500 per transaction and £10,000 over 30 days. The group is asking the Financial Conduct Authority for clearer guidance and an individual risk-based assessment rather than blanket restrictions as the UK prepares a digital asset regulatory framework for 2027. It adds that the complaints were not independently verified with the banks and that their data does not identify the exact reason for each restriction.
