82 crypto projects shut down in 2026, according to researcher Stacy Muur. Causes include falling revenues, depleted funding and security breaches. Bitcoin, which had reached a record above $126,000 in October 2025, fell below $60,000 earlier this year, worsening financial strain on projects. Among the most notable casualties, the Blast layer-2 network had attracted more than $2 billion in deposits before shutting down. Collectively, these 82 projects raised approximately $1 billion and generated $250 million in fees, showing that substantial financial backing offered little assurance of long-term survival.
