OpenAI has acquired Orchestra Bio, a startup whose AI agents track drug development programs. The team and platform will be merged into Rosalind, OpenAI’s suite of AI models and tools for biology and chemistry. Financial terms were not disclosed. Developing a drug can take up to 15 years and cost more than 2.6 billion dollars, requiring complex coordination across internal departments and external partners. Orchestra’s agents map how setbacks like a failed manufacturing batch ripple through a drug program and compare possible responses, while scientists retain final decision-making authority. The deal follows Anthropic’s roughly 400 million dollar purchase of Coefficient Bio in April.
