France’s National Assembly narrowly passed a budget amendment on Friday by a 38-to-37 vote that would make swapping cryptocurrency for MiCA-regulated stablecoins a taxable event starting in 2027. Only 100 deputies participated, with 38 in favor, 37 opposed and 25 abstaining. French holders can currently move between cryptocurrencies without owing tax as long as no euros are exchanged. The taxable gain would be subject to France’s flat tax, which stands at 31.4 percent combining income tax and social contributions. The government opposed the measure, and the budget still needs to pass through the Senate.
