Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark has moved up his forecast for full recursive self-improvement of AI systems from late 2028 to 2027. This revision, announced on October 12, 2026 in his Import AI newsletter, is based on a series of benchmark data showing rapid progress in mathematics and automated research and development. In August 2026, AI agents based on the Claude model were already leading 26% of core AI R&D tasks within the company, with approximately 30,000 AI agents running concurrently at Anthropic. Vals AI’s RSI Index predicts full automation of machine learning engineering work at Anthropic around July to August 2027.
