Mastercard launched the Global Money Platform on October 15, following its acquisition of BVNK for $1.8 billion finalized in August. This solution offers a single multi-currency account combining euros, dollars and stablecoins, with real-time conversion and card issuance in over 130 countries via Mastercard Move. Meanwhile, Stripe expanded its stablecoin card program launched in March in 18 countries to over 100 countries before year-end, with $1.2 billion spent via stablecoin cards in September, triple the amount from a year earlier. This acceleration aligns with a favorable regulatory environment: the US GENIUS Act takes effect on January 18, 2027 and final OCC rules are expected in November. Globally, 99.1% of stablecoin volume remains denominated in dollars.
