France: crypto fundraising sanctioned by Washington for Hamas financing

Share

The US Treasury sanctioned Faouzi Barika, co-founder of Association Baraka, and Amel Oualid, founder of Ensemble C Mieux, adding both individuals and their organizations to the OFAC blacklist for collecting and transferring funds to Hamas. Between 2020 and 2026, these two individuals allegedly raised over 2 million dollars for Hamas, including 1.5 million dollars after the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel. They allegedly transmitted hundreds of thousands of dollars in cryptocurrencies to Saleem Abdallah Saleem al-Zaq, deputy of a battalion of Hamas’s armed wing in Gaza. Assets of sanctioned individuals and structures located in the United States are now frozen, and US citizens and companies can no longer conduct transactions with them. These sanctions are part of a broader US operation against Hamas financing networks.
