How Hamas Moved Over $2 Million Using Crypto and Charities

The US Treasury’s OFAC sanctioned three individuals and two charities, accusing them of moving over $2 million to Hamas through cryptocurrency and sham charities. French charities Association Baraka and Ensemble C Mieux, run by Faouzi Barika and Amel Oualid, collected funds presented as aid for Gaza civilians before passing them to Saleem al-Zaq, a battalion deputy in Hamas’s armed wing. The Justice Department unsealed charges against al-Zaq and announced six arrests. According to prosecutors, approximately $1.75 million was raised through December 2025, including at least $626,000 from US donors. Chainalysis investigators traced cryptocurrency transfers between exchange platforms and wallets linked to Hamas.
