Donald Trump has appointed Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton as the new AI czar. He will lead a new White House task force called the “Super Intelligence Force” (SI), which will have 120 days to research AI risks and opportunities and provide recommendations on federal responsibilities. Clayton, a former SEC chair and U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, oversees 18 U.S. intelligence agencies. David Sacks, the previous AI and crypto czar, left his position in March. Industry leaders recently signed an agreement on voluntary safety standards that Trump described as “morally binding”.
