Amazon Web Services launched Strands Decider 2B on October 1, 2026, an open-source model with 2 billion parameters designed to make quick decisions on behalf of AI agents. The model features a lightweight architecture called a pointer head with approximately 1 million parameters that directly scores predefined options without generating text word by word, enabling decisions in under 100 milliseconds on common hardware including the NVIDIA RTX 3090. It achieved a perfect score on the easy tier of the JevBench benchmark and ranks second among public models of roughly 2 billion parameters, and first among those with a comprehensive training recipe. Built on the Qwen3.5-2B base model and fine-tuned using LoRA, the model is available on Hugging Face and GitHub, positioning itself as an open-source alternative to TypeSafe AI’s Jev.
