BIX, a crypto-compatible Visa card provider, plans to expand its service availability from 29 to 49 U.S. states within six to eight months, pending regulatory approvals and partner readiness. The card allows users to spend their USDC or USDT holdings held in a self-custody wallet, while merchants receive traditional currency. Supported blockchain networks include Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Base, Solana, and Optimism. This geographic expansion depends more on regulatory requirements than technological limitations, as U.S. crypto card programs rely on regulated banking and payment partnerships. The company currently offers a free standard membership with virtual cards, with physical cards and ACH, SEPA, and SWIFT connectivity features under development.
