SEC’s Jamie Selway advocates bipartisan support for tokenization and crypto

Jamie Selway, Director of the SEC’s Division of Trading and Markets, is advocating for a regulatory framework based on treating tokenized securities fairly under existing law, without special advantages or penalties. On September 17, 2026, the SEC issued an « Innovation Exemption » allowing platforms to trade tokenized stocks without full exchange registration for five years. This exemption notably authorizes AMM-style liquidity pools for tokenized stocks and is part of a broader discussion about extending equity market trading hours beyond the current 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM Eastern window. Both Nasdaq and NYSE have signaled their intent to develop platforms for trading tokenized securities.
