Tesla shifts focus to robotics and AI as investors urge return to core auto business

Tesla plans to spend over $25 billion in capital expenditures for 2026, nearly tripling the approximately $9 billion spent the previous year, to fund its pivot toward robotics and artificial intelligence. Production of the Model S and Model X ended in early 2026 to make room for the Optimus humanoid robot. Tesla’s 2025 revenue came in at $94.83 billion, marking the company’s first annual revenue decline at -3%, with Chinese rival BYD overtaking Tesla in total electric vehicle sales. Investors remain divided between those supporting this ambitious transformation and those calling for a return to the core automotive business to stabilize the financial situation.
