Bloomberg is warning that a slowdown in artificial intelligence development could threaten roughly $33 trillion in stock market gains accumulated since ChatGPT launched in late 2022. AI-related investments have accounted for approximately half of US GDP growth recently, with the economy expanding at around 2%. US VC funding topped $400 billion in the first half of 2026, and flows into IT-focused ETFs reached $52 billion compared to just $4 billion for other sectors, a 13-to-1 ratio in favor of tech.
