Australia’s 2026 Intergenerational Report, released on September 20 by Treasurer Jim Chalmers, projects that the nation’s economy will more than double by the mid-2060s, with artificial intelligence serving as the primary engine of that growth. According to the report’s economic models, AI could contribute between A$95 billion and A$116 billion to Australia’s GDP by 2036, representing a 2.6% to 3.2% uplift in national output over the next decade. The Australian government has already committed over A$460 million to AI-related initiatives, while the data center investment pipeline is projected to reach approximately A$150 billion by 2030. The report also forecasts the creation of 36,000 to 44,000 new jobs by 2036 through AI integration.
