The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) will open its application gateway for the new cryptoasset regulatory regime on September 30, 2026. The main application window runs until February 28, 2027, ahead of the new framework taking effect on October 25, 2027. This change moves crypto businesses from AML registration status to being assessed as authorised financial businesses under the standard Financial Services and Markets Act structure. Smaller firms may face difficult choices between building the compliance capacity required for authorisation, restructuring their services, or leaving the UK market.
