Blockstream has refused to pay for the return of nearly 600 BTC, worth approximately $47 million, still held by the attackers behind the Liquid Network exploit. The incident began when attackers exploited a flaw in Liquid’s software, a Bitcoin-based network designed to facilitate faster transfers and other financial services. Approximately 4,000 Liquid Bitcoin were fraudulently generated and exchanged for real Bitcoin on the network, with roughly 3,400 BTC returned afterward. Blockstream considers unauthorized theft a crime and not white-hat activity, and promises to work with law enforcement, exchanges, and BTC blockchain investigators to recover the remaining funds.
