Hunter Biden, son of former US president Joe Biden, announced the launch of a memecoin named LAPTOP, to be deployed on September 9 on Coinbase’s Base layer 2. The token, referencing the 2020 laptop scandal, will see one billion units issued, with 30 % allocated to founders and locked for six months. A further 30 % may be burned if certain events occur, such as a Democratic candidate winning the 2028 presidential election or Bitcoin reaching a new all-time high. Twenty percent of the supply will be distributed to TRUMP token holders who lost money, along with Hunter Biden’s Substack subscribers and journalist Andrew Callaghan’s mailing list, from which Callaghan later distanced himself.
