Bitcoin : le FMI valide un prêt de 140 millions $ au Salvador, sous conditions strictes

The International Monetary Fund has reached an agreement with El Salvador to unlock a 140 million dollar tranche as part of a broader 1.4 billion dollar loan program over 40 months. In exchange, President Nayib Bukele’s government had to remove Bitcoin’s legal tender status in January 2025 and commit to using no public funds to accumulate the cryptocurrency. El Salvador has also privatized the state electronic wallet Chivo while retaining a minority stake. The country’s strategic Bitcoin reserves stand at 7,764 BTC, worth approximately 615 million dollars, and continue to grow through private donations. The Salvadoran economy shows projected growth of 4.5% in 2026, despite an austerity plan that led to the layoff of approximately 15,000 civil servants.
