AI agents executed 176 million on-chain transactions between May 2025 and April 2026, of which 98.6% were in USDC, with an average basket of around 30 cents per payment, according to Keyrock. Research firm Gartner forecasts that 90% of B2B purchases will be handled by AI agents by 2028, representing over 15 trillion dollars in B2B transactions. Coinbase’s x402 protocol already registered over 480,000 agents in early 2026, processing 50 million dollars across 165 million payments, almost exclusively on Base. Stablecoins dominate this segment over bank cards for microtransactions, with the threshold sitting around one dollar per operation, above which the 2 to 4 percent card acceptance fees make card payments competitive.
