Chelsea believes it has strengthened squad despite Enzo Fernandez sale

Share

Chelsea sold Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City for £125 million on September 1, generating a profit of approximately £18 million on a player originally signed from Benfica for £106.8 million in January 2023. The summer transfer window produced between £400 million and £460 million in total player-sale income, setting a new Premier League record for a single window. The club spent approximately £280 million on incoming signings, leaving it with a significant net profit on transfers. Morgan Rogers, acquired for £117 million, represents the most expensive of those new signings. This net profit gives Chelsea financial flexibility under FFP and the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, while Xabi Alonso begins his tenure as the club’s new head coach.
