UK crime agency froze $13.5M amid probe into Premier League crypto sponsor

The UK’s National Crime Agency froze $13.5 million in cash in January 2025 as part of an investigation into Sorare, a company specializing in blockchain-based digital trading cards. The French firm had signed a four-year, $162-million partnership deal with the Premier League in 2023, which was terminated at the end of last season. British authorities suspect Sorare of operating unlicensed gambling activities. The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority had previously warned Premier League clubs about questionable sponsorship deals with cryptocurrency companies not authorized to operate in the country.
