American Airlines announced Thursday it will add seven new international routes to its 2027 schedule, with several to be operated on its Airbus A321XLR planes. The new destinations include Barcelona from Charlotte, Tokyo from Chicago, Amsterdam and Nice from New York JFK, as well as Porto, Reykjavik and Vienna from Philadelphia. The A321XLR can fly up to 4,700 nautical miles, enabling the carrier to focus on smaller European cities from its Philadelphia hub or New York City. American is also adding a fourth daily flight between JFK and London Heathrow. The airline is aiming to expand its international presence, which currently represents only 20% of its operations but carries higher profit margins than domestic routes.
