Stacks, the Bitcoin smart contract platform, announced this week that another institutional participant will join its Bitcoin staking program, just weeks before the planned launch of its Genesis Bond in late August 2026. The integration follows the activation of the PoX-5 hard fork on July 29, 2026, which passed with over 99.99% approval and allows large holders to earn approximately 3% APY in BTC without ever giving up custody of their coins. The initial institutional capacity has been capped at approximately 3,000 BTC during the managed bootstrap phase. UTXO Management, the asset management arm of Nakamoto Inc., became the first institutional participant on May 28, 2026, locking a portion of its Bitcoin holdings on Layer 1.
