Roman Storm’s retrial, co-founder of the privacy protocol Tornado Cash, has been postponed to April 26, 2027 by a US federal court. The jury convicted him in 2025 on a single count: conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transmitting business, carrying a maximum sentence of five years in prison. On the two other charges related to money laundering and sanctions violations, the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict. The postponement is primarily linked to a Rule 29 motion for acquittal, still pending decision for nearly a year. If this motion is denied, Storm will face these charges, each carrying a potential sentence of twenty years in prison.
