Iran and Oman discuss joint shipping route in Strait of Hormuz and mine clearing mission

Iran and Oman on Tuesday discussed a proposal to establish a jointly managed shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz as well as a mission to clear mines from this key oil export corridor. Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Albusaidi said he was hopeful that a temporary corridor and practical arrangements to restore safe navigation would be announced soon. His talks in Tehran with Iran’s top diplomat Seyed Abbas Araghchi were described as constructive. The proposed framework includes the establishment of a joint temporary navigational corridor and an agreement to implement a joint project to clear the Strait of mines.
