The United States announced on August 24 one of the most expansive Iran-related sanctions packages to date, targeting nearly 60 entities, individuals, and vessels under Executive Order 13902. The Treasury Department, led by Secretary Scott Bessent, designated networks tied to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS). A UAE-based individual, Ivan Obukhov, allegedly processed over $100 million in cryptocurrency payments since 2023, while an MOIS-directed cyber group generated approximately $16.8 million in illicit proceeds by hacking US infrastructure. This campaign expands sanctions to include digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping sectors.
