Four men have been committed to the Yvelines assize court for the kidnapping and assault in July 2023 in Élancourt of the mother of a New York-based cryptocurrency entrepreneur. The kidnappers, disguised as delivery drivers, demanded 10 million euros in cryptocurrency from the victim, who was tied up and threatened with a hammer and machete, before leaving with only 30,000 euros. The investigation, conducted by the Versaille military police, identified the suspects through a stolen vehicle, DNA traces, and a notebook containing the word « sicarios ». The alleged mastermind, Badiss Bajjou, is currently serving a sentence in Morocco without yet being extradited to France. Three years after the events, this trial is part of a series of similar attacks targeting relatives of figures in the French cryptocurrency sector.
