From August 24, YouTube will count a view the moment a video starts playing with no minimum watch time, covering uploads, Shorts, and live streams worldwide. Public view totals will climb fast, but the number used for creator payments will remain in a submenu labeled Engaged Views in Advanced Mode and will not change. Starting February 1, 2027, new Partner Program applicants will need 8,000 qualified watch hours over 365 days and 20 million qualified Shorts views over 90 days, doubling today’s requirements. YouTube generated $11.06 billion in advertising revenue last quarter, up 13% year over year.
