OpenAI is developing a portable AI speaker with a doughnut-shaped design, moving components, cameras, and an expected price between $300 and $400. The screen-free device is approximately the size of a hockey puck, battery powered, and scheduled for a 2027 launch. Development is a joint effort with Jony Ive’s LoveFrom studio, following OpenAI’s acquisition of io for roughly $6.5 billion. Simultaneously, OpenAI is entangled in a trade secret lawsuit with Apple, which alleges the company obtained confidential hardware information from former Apple employees.
