The Stoxx 600 hit a record high on Tuesday, closing 0.7% higher at 656.86 points. Europe’s headline index, which tracks 600 large, medium, and small capitalization companies across 17 countries, is up 10% so far in 2026. Technology stocks, particularly semiconductor names such as Soitec, AT&S and ST Microelectronics, have been the strongest performers with gains of 371%, 330% and 101% respectively. Conversely, the auto sector is down 16% year-to-date while luxury goods have struggled due to a slowdown in China, with LVMH, Hermès and Kering all posting significant declines.
