Cloudflare announced the rollout of Cloudflare Wallets, a stablecoin wallet infrastructure designed to enable AI agents to autonomously pay for APIs, data streams, or content on the web. The offering distinguishes two types of wallets: Account Wallets for humans to manage funds and spending rules, and Virtual Wallets entrusted to agents via API keys. Safety mechanisms allow the account owner to set maximum allocations, a whitelist of authorized merchants, and per-transaction limits. Payments rely on the x402 protocol, initially developed by Coinbase, which attaches payment directly to an HTTP request without requiring an account or subscription. Approximately 57% of web traffic is currently generated by bots, a shift pushing industry players to rethink the economic model of the internet.
