Ethereum researchers propose EIP-8361 to end staking issuance at 50%

A group of Ethereum researchers has submitted EIP-8361, a proposal that would gradually burn a larger share of validator rewards as more ETH is staked, reaching full burn when approximately 50% of the supply is staked, or roughly 60.25 million ETH. The current issuance curve maintains an estimated 1.5% yield regardless of how much ETH is staked, creating an incentive for continued staking growth. The authors project that over 70 million ETH could be staked by January 2028 if the validator entry queue remains near maximum and exits stay limited. The proposal includes an 18-month transition period and is being considered for the Hegotá network upgrade, though concerns have been raised about effects on solo validators and economic security.
