Zcash co-founder Sean Bowe submitted a proposal to end the 8% share of block rewards paid to Zcash Community Grants, which the organization says now holds more than $125 million. The draft Zcash improvement proposal would redirect that share to the Network Sustainability Mechanism until the stream ends on November 24, 2028, with the mechanism beginning to distribute the coins as block rewards in February 2031. A dashboard reported 91,453 ZEC, $8.8 million in cash and $2.4 million in approved but unpaid grants, while another 110,049 ZEC were due to ZCG and worth $136.6 million at the dashboard’s price. The proposal is not included in the November 5 NU7 upgrade and would require a later activation as other community members support or challenge the change in destination.
