Yann LeCun joins 224 Ventures to invest in AI startups, signaling where smart money is headed

Yann LeCun, Turing Award winner and former chief AI scientist at Meta, has joined 224 Ventures, a venture capital fund dedicated to early-stage artificial intelligence startups. The fund, launched on August 5 with over 100 million dollars in assets under management, also features Oriol Vinyals, formerly technical co-lead on Google’s Gemini model at DeepMind. AMI Labs, the new structure founded by LeCun after his departure from Meta in November 2025, raised a 1.03 billion dollar seed round in early 2026. The entry of this purely AI-focused fund could make fundraising more challenging for crypto ventures without an AI angle, as institutional capital increasingly pivots toward artificial intelligence.
