XRP Ledger Passes a Crucial Test From the Bank for International Settlements

Share

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) tested the XRP Ledger as a tool for making official statistics tamper-resistant, using cryptographic fingerprints to verify data origin and integrity. BIS Working Paper No. 1374, published September 2, anchors cryptographic fingerprints of official datasets directly onto XRPL rather than storing the data itself on-chain. Researchers generated these fingerprints using SHA3-512 hashing, grouped them into a Merkle tree, and anchored the root value on the XRP Ledger. Measured performance shows median publication times of 3 to 5 seconds and verification times of 1 to 2 seconds. This research adds another institutional use case for XRPL as infrastructure, although it does not indicate that the BIS has adopted the network for official operations.
