New York Federal Reserve President John Williams said Tuesday he does not see additional rate hikes in 2027 after one more increase this year. This position puts him at odds with market operators, who are betting roughly 90% on at least a 50 basis point increase by the end of 2027 according to CME FedWatch data. Eight of the 18 FOMC members who provided forecasts for 2027 still anticipate one additional hike after this year’s increase. Williams noted that inflation for 2027 should be near the Fed’s 2% target, with the PCE index coming in at 3.4% in August. He added that disinflationary forces remain at work and that inflation should decline significantly next year.
