Older generations hold massive housing wealth, with Americans 70 and over boasting an average net worth of $1.4 million compared to just $100,000 for those under 40. Zelman anticipates that America’s “limitations” in building denser housing will keep affordability a major issue for young adults, while the negative stigma associated with multi-generational living is gradually fading.
