Vivek Ramaswamy, the former Republican presidential candidate who was highly vocal about cryptocurrency in 2024, has significantly toned down his public statements on digital assets since launching his Ohio gubernatorial campaign in February 2025. His company Strive, co-founded in 2022, held 23,156 BTC worth approximately $2 billion as of August 28, and he received substantial donations from the crypto sector, including $20 million from Susquehanna International Group co-founder Jeff Yass and $5 million from billionaire Elon Musk. However, Ohio voters remain skeptical of cryptocurrency, with 79% of respondents reporting they have never held any and 77% holding negative views on digital assets. As of September 22, his Democratic opponent Amy Acton led Ramaswamy by one point in the polls, with election betting markets favoring the Democratic candidate with a 66% chance of winning.
