The US Department of Energy is allocating up to $500 million in grants to boost domestic production of critical minerals, battery manufacturing, and recycling. The funding targets projects involving lithium, graphite, nickel, copper, aluminum, and rare earth elements. Individual awards will typically range from $50 million to $200 million, with a mandatory 50% cost-share requirement from beneficiaries. When combined with private capital, total investment across these projects could approach $1 billion. The US government has also announced additional defense financing and workforce grants exceeding $180 million directed at the minerals sector.
