US enforces maritime blockade in Strait of Hormuz, impacting oil shipments

The U.S. Central Command announced on August 17 that it diverted 64 merchant vessels and rendered inoperable three ships that did not comply with the blockade. Two additional vessels were boarded to ensure adherence to the blockade, which is part of the U.S. strategy to maintain control over this strategic strait, a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments. Markets estimate only 11.5% confidence in a return to normal by September 30.
