Anwar Gargash, the UAE’s presidential diplomatic adviser, announced on September 7, 2026 at the Hili Forum in Abu Dhabi that the UAE is actively building alternative trade corridors to prevent Iran from holding its energy exports hostage. Since February 28, 2026, Iran has struck UAE territory with missiles and disrupted oil tanker traffic, threatening the Strait of Hormuz through which a significant portion of global oil supply flows. Through infrastructure such as the Habshan-Fujairah pipeline that bypasses the strait, the UAE had recovered approximately 85% of its pre-war export levels by early June 2026. Abu Dhabi suspended all financial transactions with Iran in August 2026, formalizing an economic rupture the conflict had already created.
