U.S.-Canada trade war threatens to worsen inflation for both economies. Neither can afford it.

A trade war with Canada would undoubtedly hurt the smaller northern neighbor more, but the United States would not escape entirely unscathed. In the worst-case scenario, the main consequence would be a slight increase in inflation in both countries, at a time when they are already struggling to contain price increases. Both countries could, however, back down given the potential costs of these new trade tensions.
