US President Donald Trump has expressed openness to diplomacy with Iran while warning that airstrikes could resume depending on how conditions develop. An Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed around June 17, 2026, charts a path toward ending more than 100 days of conflict between the United States and Iran. At least twenty people were killed in US and Saudi airstrikes targeting Iran-backed paramilitaries in Iraq, which Baghdad condemned as violations of its sovereignty. Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Ali Al-Zaidi is scheduled to travel to both Washington and Tehran in July 2026 to keep the negotiation process alive.
