Trump methane policy rollback may have minimal impact on crude prices, EPA says

Share

The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that the proposed easing of methane emissions rules would lower the price of U.S. crude oil by 11 cents per barrel in 2027, or 0.14%, while increasing domestic production by 0.09%. The plan, announced by Donald Trump and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, may have a limited effect on supply because uncertainty over its implementation and durability could constrain investment. According to the EPA, it would generate 60 million additional short tons of methane emissions from 2027 through 2050 but save the U.S. economy $45 billion. The proposal still requires public comment and further regulatory review, while the Trump administration is also considering easing sanctions on some Russian diesel exports.
