Trump Made More Stock Trades Than Congress Combined While Pushing a Trading Ban

According to a Bloomberg review of financial disclosures through June, Donald Trump made nearly 28,700 stock trades in 17 months, more than the entire U.S. Congress, which made 22,200 during the same period. Republicans passed a bill in July banning members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children from trading individual stocks, a measure that explicitly excludes the president. Trump endorsed the legislation and called for its passage without delay in his State of the Union address. An Economist/YouGov poll conducted in May found that 75 percent of Americans want elected officials barred from trading stocks, yet enforcement of such a ban remains problematic.
