President Donald Trump proposed on Wednesday to rename the Strait of Hormuz as ‘Trump Strait’ on his Truth Social network, less than a week after signing an executive order renaming Lake Ontario as ‘Lake America’. This strategic waterway, which carried one-fifth of global oil trade before the war against Iran began on Feb. 28, remains the site of major disruptions. More than 17 million barrels of oil transited the strait Monday, a wartime record, while approximately 20 million barrels per day moved through before the conflict began.
