THORChain has paused native Zcash (ZEC) swaps after a bug cut into the bonds of 18 node operators, with roughly 140 RUNE deducted in total. The incident, which occurred around October 19, 2026, stemmed from how the protocol matches outbound ZEC transactions, treated as a vault slash. No user or vault funds were lost, with the damage absorbed by bonded node operators. ZEC swaps will remain frozen until the v3.21 network upgrade, expected around October 23, 2026. This marks the second disruption for THORChain this month, following Tether’s freeze of approximately 1.45 million USDT on October 9.
