THORChain is facing backlash for refusing to block addresses linked to Bitget’s September 24 hack, which resulted in 387.5 million dollars being routed to attacker addresses. Bitget’s public tracker shows that 1,497 of the 2,377 identified attacker addresses holding 378 million dollars moved funds through THORChain’s cross-chain swap protocol. Bitget CEO Gracy Chen formally requested on September 26 that THORChain refuse service to these addresses, stating that decentralization should not be used as a shield for facilitating known stolen funds. THORChain responded that as a decentralized and permissionless protocol like Bitcoin, Ethereum and BNB Chain, it cannot censor transactions. Critics point out that the network halted its own operations for approximately five weeks in May 2025 following a 10.7 million dollar exploit, questioning why it now refuses any responsibility for another platform’s stolen funds.
